Day 198 of 365 Days of Song

Day 198 – Deftones – Beware

‘Beware’ from Saturday Night Wrist. Wikipedia states that this song is” a warning to others about sex, drugs, and drinking, which were the three main problems he encountered during the album’s creation.“

This album helped me get through some tough times and sometimes reflected the emotions I was feeling/going through. I still view this album as an uplifting influence on me despite it’s dark tones and themes.

Do you like the way the water tastes
Like gunfire
And you knew but you could never say
Then come forth ’cause it’s coming round
Round the water

Day 181 of 365 Days of Song

Day 181 – Deftones, Adam Sandler and Brandon Boyd & Mike Einziger (Incubus) – Be Quiet & Drive (Far Away)

This town don’t feel mine
I’m fast to get away-FAR

I dressed you in her clothes
Now drive me far – away, away, away

It feels good to know you’re mine
Now drive me far – away, away, away
FAR away

Day 85 of 365 Days of Song

Day 85 – Palms – Shortwave Radio

More examples of the genius of Deftones frontman, Chino Moreno, finding success and critical-acclaim with yet another side-project named Palms. His lyrics remind me of a recent conversation about the semantics of saying “goodbye.”

I don’t know what to say,
but I will never leave your side.
How can you think
I could ever say goodbye?

I don’t know what to say,
I will never say goodbye, for anything.
No I would never say goodbye.

Ascending into heaven,
while staring into hell.
You’re staring into heaven,
descending into hell.

Day 30 of 365 Days of Song

Day 30 – Deftones – Anniversary of an Uninteresting Event

Remembering a dearly departed friend today, on what would have been his 36th Birthday. Always in my thoughts, buddy.

No more gold lights for the queen earth to keep you warm in your kingdoms
High on the waves you make for us
But not since you left have the waves come
The bar is dead and the rocket’s rain is keeping you wet in your deathbed
so high on the waves you made for us
And not since you left have the waves come… have the waves come…
