Day 204 of 365 Days of Song

Day 204 – Chapter 24 – Blisland to Cry

Found out about this band by rummaging through copies of NME from around 2011, earlier. Decided to take up the NME’s recommendation and give a listen.

Day 204 – Gregory Isaacs – Night Nurse

Was down the pub earlier and the singer played this hit…Really not a fan of it.

I don’t wanna see no doc
I need attendance from my nurse around the clock
For there’s no prescription for me
She is the one, the only remedy

Day 202 of 365 Days of Song

Day 202 – Kings Of Leon – Sex On Fire

A lot of people hate this song, but i personally like it. I met up with old work friends approximately  two years ago – where one of them played guitar and sung in a cover band at a local pub. It was brilliant evening catching up with people that were a huge part of my life many years ago. It was like we had seen each other last week, such was the comfort and atmosphere of being together again. My friend’s band finished with this song and we danced it away!

Day 201 – Lykke Li – Sadness is a Blessing

I love her 1st two albums. This is a gem from her second. She has a tragic sort of tenderness to her voice, with such a melancholic grace about her that I find alluring to listen to. And I agree, although only sometimes, that ‘Sadness is a blessing’, though mostly believe it to be the most worst curse.

These scars of mine make wounded rhymes tonight
I dream of times when you were mine so I
Can keep it like a haunting
Heart beating close to mine

Sadness is a blessing
Sadness is a pearl
Sadness is my boyfriend
Oh, sadness I’m your girl

Day 200 of 365 Days of Song

Day 200 – Pearl Jam – Crazy Mary

Every town has a “Crazy Mary”; in my town it’s “Nutty Carol”.

Next morning on the way into town
We saw some skid marks and followed them around
Over the curve through the fields into the house of Mary
That what you fear the most could meet you halfway
That what you fear the most could meet you halfway

Day 198 of 365 Days of Song

Day 198 – Deftones – Beware

‘Beware’ from Saturday Night Wrist. Wikipedia states that this song is” a warning to others about sex, drugs, and drinking, which were the three main problems he encountered during the album’s creation.“

This album helped me get through some tough times and sometimes reflected the emotions I was feeling/going through. I still view this album as an uplifting influence on me despite it’s dark tones and themes.

Do you like the way the water tastes
Like gunfire
And you knew but you could never say
Then come forth ’cause it’s coming round
Round the water

Day 196 of 365 Days of Song

Day 196 – Patti Smith – Because the Night

It’s been a ‘sharing Patti Smith songs’ day with a lovely Lady whom I adore.

Come on now try and understand
The way I feel when I’m in your hands
Take my hand come undercover
They can’t hurt you now,
Can’t hurt you now, can’t hurt you now
Because the night belongs to lovers
Because the night belongs to lust
Because the night belongs to lovers
Because the night belongs to us
